On June 19th, we’re heading down to Galveston for the official return of Juneteenth and you’re invited!

This free community celebration is made possible with the support of Galveston Park & Board, led by Nia’s Daughters Movement Collective (@niasdaughters), and curated by Elevate Experiences (@elevateexperiences_). It’s a true down south cultural experience, blending art, storytelling, performance, and community all at the birthplace of Juneteenth, now 160 years later. This event draws inspiration from both Galveston’s historical significance and the spirit of the “Year of Return” initiated

by the Ghanaian government. Together, these dual narratives reclaim Black ancestral roots and celebrate the enduring spirit of freedom.

 

Held at the historic Juneteenth Headquarters, Nia Cultural Center ( @niaculturalcenterinc), the event unfolds in two acts:

Act I: The Prelude

A dynamic opening experience featuring a panel discussion on the history and legacy of Juneteenth, hands-on activations, and the Vernissage Happy Hour hosted by CC Studios. Guests will also have the chance to explore the powerful “Champions of Juneteenth” exhibition by artist Ted Ellis, accompanied by music and cocktails.

Act II: The Jubilee

Set beneath the iconic Juneteenth mural, this evening celebration turns up the energy with live sets from DJ Shante, DJ D Rose, and DJ Al Patrii, plus performances by Sha Davis, The Everlasting Vibes, and an immersive storytelling-meets-movement experience by Nia’s Daughters.

 

Enjoy cocktails crafted with GO3 Vodka and Greenwood Whiskey, nostalgic sips from Exotic Pop, and an espresso bar by Black Coffee Houston , all available throughout both acts.
